Ruth began her journey in business with a Business Studies degree and consolidated that with six years in the oil industry. Development came through roles and responsibilities in PR, Marketing, Sales, and operationally in Distribution. This varied background proved to be invaluable following her move into consulting with Price Waterhouse. Exposed to new industries, Ruth worked on organisational change management programmes in areas of process redesign, culture change and leadership development. Building on this expertise, Ruth moved on to work as an independent management consultant, focusing on the areas of change management and leadership development in both the public and private sectors. She also co-founded and secured investment for an online financial services company with responsibilities for Marketing and HR.
Studying for an MSc in Coaching and Development provided Ruth with an understanding of the theory behind her business and consulting experience. It also gave her an academic framework within which to research and apply her learning. Research projects focused on what it means to coach and to be a coach, as well as the qualities and values required for leadership in complex and uncertain environments. Ruth's research dissertation explored what allows people to adapt and how coaching can enable people to become more adaptable.
The combination of Ruth's experience in business, supported by her academic studies, allows her to work in a way that is pragmatic, effective and based on proven theoretical principles.
